Before I forget..there is another movie I found most intriguing the other night. Its a wonderful 1942 movie called "Now, Voyager", starring Bette Davis. Now, Im not normally a Bette Davis fan..But she gave a fantastic performance as a young waif named Charlotte Vale whose domineering mother makes her a recluse in their mansion to take care of her and her hypochondriac ailments. She locks herself in her room, becoming more of a chubby spinster everyday, and finds refuge within her diaries, smutty romance novels, sneaking cigarettes, and doing wonderful Ivory carvings. Sick and tired of her mothers demands, and being the butt of her families jokes, Charlotte breaks down and goes to a Sanitarium where a fine doctor helps her to deal with her issues. After her release, she goes on a cruise to South Africa under a different identity and under crazy circumstances becomes thrown into situations with a man named Jerry. They become great friends..then eventually fall inlove. Tragically, Jerry is married, to a very domineering wife and has two daughters, one of which, Tina, bares a striking resemblence in looks and deed, to Charlotte herself. Charlotte fears for the girl. Jerry and Charlotte agree not to see each other after the trip, as she did not want to break up a family...She goes back home a changed woman..beautiful, thin, and eloquent. Nobody recognizes her. She eventually falls for another man, wins her mothers respect, but feels the need to go back to the Sanitarium...There she finds dear Tina. She takes her under her wing and becomes her friend...She soon finds that she needs Tina as much as Tina needs her, and she seeks custody of her from Jerry, after abruptly ending her engagement to the other man. She and Jerry still love each other, so she cant foresee herself with anybody else.. But they never act on their feelings again...She feels that by having Tina as her own, it would be like she and Jerry had a child together, and they could still see each other, and share in something wonderful even tho they cant be together physically. Its a wonderfully tragic story. And Bette Davis is very convincing as both the ugly duckling and the striking woman. I should love to own this movie as well. :0P
